The mission of Holy Spirit School is to serve God by providing a challenging academic education within the Catholic Tradition.
Middle School Science consists of three Major Areas: Physical Science, Life Science, and Earth and Space Science. These Major Areas are specified by the Green Bay Diocese Science Standards, and the WI Department of Public Instruction (DPI) Standards for Science.
Holy Spirit School teaches Earth Science in 6th Grade, Life Science in 7th Grade, and Physical Science in 8th Grade.
In Earth Science the 6th graders will learn about: Earth's Systems, Weather in the Atmosphere, Minerals and Rocks in the Geosphere, Plate Tectonics, Distribution of Natural Resources, and Human Impact on the Environment. The students will also complete a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Flight and Space Unit.
The 7th grade study of Life Science encompasses Living Things in the Biosphere, The Cell System, Human Body Systems, Genes and Heredity, and Ecosystems. Additionally, the PLTW Medical Detectives unit will be integrated throughout the school year.
8th grade students study Physical Science. Their curriculum includes Introduction to Matter, Solids, Liquids, and Gases, Energy, Thermal Energy, Atoms and the Periodic Table, Chemical Reactions, and Forces & Motion. The 8th grade students also conduct their own research as part of a cross-curricular study with ELA and Math to complete a science fair project.
Engineering applications that are informed by science are incorporated throughout each grade level science class.
Woven throughout all three Major Areas is the theme of God’s hand in creating, and guiding our world and universe.
