The mission of Holy Spirit School is to serve God by providing a challenging academic education within the Catholic Tradition.
The language arts/literature curriculum at Holy Spirit Catholic School instills in students, knowledge of English language and literature, as well as fluency in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and thinking. Special emphasis is placed on the development of critical thinking skills and comprehension to prepare students to make sound judgments based on Catholic values. The level of difficulty increases as students progress from 6th grade through 8th grade.
In language arts students will participate in learning activities to build skills in the following categories: grammar and usage, vocabulary and word analysis, and writing processes and features. Students will complete multiple writing pieces throughout the school year where they will practice and display these skills.
In literature students will read novels, excerpts from novels, short stories, informational articles, poems, and digital texts in a variety of genres. Students will also read books of their choice independently. Many different learning activities will be provided to students to ensure strong analysis and understanding of the texts read.
